WHO AM I?

I am Matt Wolfe, Director of Brand and Marketing. In this role, I oversee the branding and marketing activities for Greater New Orleans, Inc., a regional economic development organization that represents the 10 parishes of Southeast Louisiana. I maintain several websites, including WorkNOLA.com, NewOrleansStartupFund.org, and DestinationGNO.com. This work also involves media outreach on behalf of the organization, securing over 450 annual media appearances for GNO, Inc. initiatives.

I have managed several initiatives, including workforce recruitment and relocation, water management and coastal restoration, conference planning, investor relations, and business attraction. I am an Emmy and Telly award recipient and have served on the New Orleans Super Bowl XLVII Host Committee, the Katrina 10 PR Council, and the 2017 NBA All Star Game Communications Team.

I have over 11 years of experience in traditional journalism, with involvement in broadcast television and daily and weekly print newspapers. During that time, I managed content for multiple websites and storytelling projects while covering significant news stories and major events.

I am a native New Orleanian who returned home in 2010 after living in Shreveport and California for nearly two decades. I currently live in Lakeview with my wife, two dogs, and cat.

EXPERIENCE

My career as a communications professional allows me to tackle a wide variety of challenges that focused on building brand awareness and reaching large audiences. Though each of my jobs required unique skills, I demonstrated a habit for consistently bringing big thoughts to the table and executing strong, award-winning outcomes.

Colleagues and employers know me as a hard worker, an creative thinker, and ultimately a trusted friend. In my time within each organization, I made a lasting impact personally and professionally, creating a reputation which led to two direct recruitments into new jobs.

Brand and Marketing Director

Management of all external-facing materials for the organization’s activities, ensuring the Greater New Orleans, Inc. (GNO, Inc.) brand is highly regarded while delivering high-impact visuals and content to multiple audiences.

  • Branding of the Greater New Orleans region (10 parishes in Southeast Louisiana) as a business-friendly location to hundreds of companies targeted for relocation, including the successful attraction of GE Capital, Gameloft, and over 55 businesses which have chosen to move or relocate to the metro area since 2011
  • Media relations resulting 450+ appearances annually, including national publications such as Forbes, the Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Fast Compant, and many more; more than 150 published rankings for the market
  • Direct recruitment of technology companies and national conferences, including the successful relocation of Collision conference, inXile Entertainment, and Major League Gaming World Championships to the Greater New Orleans region
  • Promotion of our organization as a major asset for the region’s economic growth, leading to continued year-over-year investment growth of over 20% and social media audience gains of over 1,000%

Recruited from broadcast station to manage the transition to an “online-first” newsroom for a Gannett-owned property.

  • Oversight of online presence for the daily newspaper, including the publication’s main website (MyDesert.com), supplemental micro-sites, social media accounts, and email/text news alerts; lead of social media task force
  • Member of the company’s senior management team, focused on online strategy, long-term initiatives, and metrics leading to a traffic increase from average of 2.5m page views per month to over 4m
  • Project lead for launch of entertainment site Metromix.com, managed team to collect location data for over 1,000 local venues prior to launch

  • Maintained control of all on-air and off-air promotional materials for three television stations (ABC, FOX, UPN)
  • Negotiated and purchased $2 million annual budget in radio, print, outdoor, and cable advertising for these three stations
  • Oversight of a network affiliation changeover – including contract negotiation, programming changes, and promotional blitzes
  • Directly sought and achieved major ratings increases for each station during sweeps period
